Job summary

The Stepping Stones Group is seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our full-time school-based team in Okeechobee, FL. This role focuses on facilitating effective communication for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students to ensure equal access to education.

You will collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to support classroom instruction and school activities. Strong ethics, confidentiality, and professional standards are essential, with opportunities

Qualifications

• Fluency in ASL and English required.
• Educational Interpreter certification or Florida-acknowledged licensure required.
• Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred.
• Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpretation for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students during classroom instruction and activities.
• Facilitate communication among students, teachers, staff, peers, and families as appropriate.
• Interpret lectures, discussions, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
• Support students' access to academic content while promoting independence and self-advocacy.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
• Adhere to professional ethics, confidentiality, and district policies.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities as needed.
