Job summary

The Stepping Stones Group is seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our full-time school-based team in Carlsbad, NM. This role supports Deaf or Hard of Hearing students by providing precise interpretation and fostering equal access to learning opportunities.

As an ASL Interpreter, you will collaborate with students, teachers, and staff to ensure active participation in classroom instruction and school activities.

Qualifications

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
• Educational Interpreter certification, state licensure, or credentials required by New Mexico regulations (NM RLD SLI, NM PED).
• Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred.
• Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpretation for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing during classroom instruction and school activities.
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, peers, and families as appropriate.
• Interpret lectures, discussions, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
• Support students' access to academic content while promoting independence and self-advocacy.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
• Adhere to professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and district policies.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities as needed.
