Job summary

MediaNews Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to analyze revenue and expense accounts and prepare variance reports while supporting the company’s operating plans. This role is remote, but candidates must reside in CO, FL, IL, MA, MN, OH, OK, PA, or TX.

You will analyze financial data, create models for decision support, and help with forecasts and budgets using Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM. Travel to Denver is expected 10-25% and a strong Excel foundation is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics or equivalent
• Strong financial analysis foundation and forecasting experience
• Proficiency with Excel including advanced functions (XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH)
• Experience with Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM preferred

Job description

Summary: The Staff Accountant analyzes revenue and expense accounts and prepares variance reports while working with the company's overall operating plans. They are responsible for maintaining finance reporting on all areas of the business and assisting with weekly projections and annual budgets.

Although this is a remote role, candidates must reside in CO, FL, IL, MA, MN, OH, OK, PA, or TX

Analyze financial data by collecting, monitoring, and creating financial models for decision support for revenue, expense, and strategic objectives

Improve financial performance by analyzing results; monitoring variances; Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts

Work with Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM financial reporting

Have a strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and models

Strong analytical (quantitative as well as qualitative) skills including building models

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced lookup functions (XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), conditional logic (IF, IFS, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS), and dynamic cell linking

Strong financial modeling experience

Have extensive understanding of financial processes, systems and controls and responsibility for documenting the processes

Able to prioritize workload with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics
