Job summary

MediaNews Group, a nationwide media company, seeks a Staff Accountant to analyze revenue and expense data and prepare variance reports to support operating plans.

This remote role requires residency in FL (and other listed states). You will use Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM, build financial models, and contribute to forecasts and annual budgets.

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics is required.
• Strong Excel proficiency with advanced functions in daily tasks.
• Experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Familiarity with Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM is preferred.
• Ability to document financial processes and controls.
• Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple projects.

Summary: The Staff Accountant analyzes revenue and expense accounts and prepares variance reports while working with the company’s overall operating plans. They are responsible for maintaining finance reporting on all areas of the business and assisting with weekly projections and annual budgets.

Although this is a remote role, candidates must reside in CO, FL, IL, MA, MN, OH, OK, PA, or TX.

• Analyze financial data by collecting, monitoring, and creating financial models for decision support for revenue, expense, and strategic objectives
• Improve financial performance by analyzing results; monitoring variances; Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts
• Work with Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM financial reporting
• Have a strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and models
• Strong analytical (quantitative as well as qualitative) skills including building models
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced lookup functions (XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), conditional logic (IF, IFS, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS), and dynamic cell linking
• Strong financial modeling experience
• Have extensive understanding of financial processes, systems and controls and responsibility for documenting the processes
• Able to prioritize workload with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics
