Job Title: Full Stack Software Engineer III
Location: Mountain View, CA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days per week on site)
Employment Type: Contract (12+ months)
About the Role
We are seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to join a growing team building technology that helps small businesses access financing and make informed decisions about available capital.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role for someone who is comfortable working across the technology stack. The team builds customer-facing experiences as well as the backend services that power them, so the ideal candidate can move comfortably between React/JavaScript on the frontend and Java/Spring Boot on the backend.
The successful candidate will be able to take an assigned feature or engineering task, understand the broader context, determine an appropriate technical approach, and independently drive the work through completion with guidance from senior engineers when needed.
Approximately 80% of the role will be hands-on software development and coding.
What You’ll Work On
The team is focused on helping small businesses access the right financial products and offers. Engineers will contribute to experiences that help customers understand and evaluate financing options, including:
- Customer-facing landing pages and financial product experiences
- Loan application and application-related workflows
- Experiences that present financing offers and loan terms to customers
- Backend services supporting customer eligibility, offers, and financial product experiences
- New capabilities and enhancements across the full technology stack
The work provides an opportunity to contribute to products that directly impact how small businesses discover and access capital.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications and services.
- Take ownership of individual engineering tasks and features from initial requirements through completion.
- Develop frontend experiences using JavaScript/TypeScript, and React.
- Develop and enhance backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Work across the technology stack rather than being limited exclusively to frontend or backend development.
- Translate functional requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
- Design solutions for individual features within larger technical initiatives.
- Write clean, maintainable, production-quality code.
- Develop automated tests and contribute to overall test coverage.
- Troubleshoot bugs, investigate technical issues, and implement solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions.
- Work within an Agile development environment.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners.
- Proactively research documentation and technical resources to solve problems independently.
- Clearly communicate progress, technical decisions, risks, and blockers.
- Contribute to CI/CD and cloud-based software development practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience as a full-stack software engineer.
- Strong JavaScript experience.
- Professional experience with React is required, particularly for candidates with a frontend-leaning background.
- Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot or comparable technologies.
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, design, and architecture.
- Experience with automated testing and modern software development practices.
- Experience working through the full software development lifecycle.
- Ability to independently take an assigned feature or task and drive it to completion.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with TypeScript.
- Experience with Kotlin.
- Experience with gRPC and/or GraphQL.
- Experience with cloud-based application development.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with financial services, fintech, payments, lending, banking, or other financial technology products.
- Experience working on customer-facing financial applications or transaction-oriented products.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
