Job description

Full Stack Software Engineer/Developer – Leidos – San Diego, CA

This position will support the Epidemiology and Data Management Support Department and involves programming, documenting, managing configuration, testing, and bug fixing involved in creating and maintaining applications and databases. It includes collaboration with other software engineers/developers and researchers.

It is a full‑time position in San Diego with a hybrid work schedule (on‑site and telework). Candidates must be located within commuting distance of San Diego to work on‑site as needed. The number of days on‑site may vary, and the schedule is subject to change based on program and customer requirements. Work hours will coincide with the standard command business hours of 0700-1630.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain applications and databases meeting technical, consumer, and customer needs.
  • Produce thorough documentation.
  • Simplify, modernize, and migrate legacy applications.
  • Coordinate with security teams to ensure architecture and software compliance.
  • Implement new features and bug fixes.
  • Work with QA engineers to test and deploy applications.
  • Work with product managers to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Stay up‑to‑date on the latest technologies and trends in web, application, and database development.
  • Effectively communicate with peers, project leads, and the government customer in performance of program efforts.
  • Work independently to achieve day‑to‑day objectives that impact operational results and project deliverables for the Operational Readiness Directorate and Force Health Analytics Department.
  • Ensure tasks are completed on time for mission requirements.
  • Assist other technical staff with tasks as needed for the customer mission.
  • Model Leidos values at all times.
Basic Qualifications
  • Completed a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. university, or an international university of equivalent standard, in computer science or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in full‑stack development.
  • Experience with at least one back‑end programming language (e.g., Python, Java, PHP, C#).
  • Experience with at least one database (e.g., MSSQL, MySQL, or PostgreSQL).
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Gitlab).
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
  • Self‑starter who can act on objectives independently.
  • Excellent communication skills with all members of the team and organization.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem‑solving skills with an ability to work cooperatively in a team setting, including flexibility in responding to changing demands, timelines, and priorities.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with medical terms and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) and related processes, such as the Authority to Operate (ATO).
  • Experience with .NET Framework.
  • Experience with AWS or a similar cloud computing platform.
  • Experience with DevOps.
  • Experience with security best practices.
  • Active Interim or SECRET security clearance.
  • Naval Health West – NHW.
