Job summary

Visionist, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Full-Stack Software Engineer (Data Pipeline Focus) to join a team embedded on a premier intelligence contract.

You will design and implement data processing workflows, build ingest pipelines, REST APIs, and interactive visualizations, while improving code quality and documentation in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline. (Additional 4 years of experience may substitute degree)
• 12 years of experience in Software Engineering
• Extensive experience developing software in Java, including Java-based REST APIs
• Experience with NoSQL databases such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Redis, or Dgraph
• Proficiency in at least two of the following: Spring Boot REST APIs, Data wrangling/dataflow, Apache NiFi

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of data processing workflows for a mature, web-based analytical platform
• Develop and maintain ingest pipelines, scalable REST APIs, and visualizations that integrate diverse public information sources
• Drive improvements in code quality, testing, documentation, and Jira task management
• Leverage AI platforms to streamline software development, data transformation, and schema management
• Develop and optimize solutions using API-driven microservices, NoSQL databases, and modern web frameworks
• Support the full data processing lifecycle from collection to presentation through the UI
• Manage and optimize data storage, retrieval, and performance with Elasticsearch and Dgraph
• Collaborate with analysts, product owners, and engineers to meet operational requirements
• Mentor team members on best practices in data processing and software engineering
• Identify and implement process improvements for new data sources

Your contributions are…

• Lead the design and development of data processing workflows for a mature, web-based analytical platform supporting hundreds of mission users
• Develop and maintain ingest pipelines, scalable REST APIs, and user-facing visualizations that integrate diverse publicly available information (PAI) sources
• Drive improvements in code quality, testing, documentation, and Jira task management to support long-term system performance and maintainability
• Leverage established design patterns and AI platforms to streamline software development, data transformation, and schema management
• Develop and optimize solutions using API-driven microservices, NoSQL databases, Apache NiFi, and modern web frameworks
• Support the full data processing lifecycle, from collection and transformation to storage, retrieval, and presentation through the user interface
• Manage and optimize data storage, retrieval, and performance using Elasticsearch and Dgraph, with additional support for MongoDB and Redis
• Collaborate with analysts, product owners, and fellow engineers to ensure software solutions meet operational requirements
• Mentor team members on best practices in data processing and software engineering while contributing to a collaborative development environment
• Identify and implement process improvements that accelerate the integration of new data sources and improve overall team efficiency

  • Spring Boot REST APIs and Spring libraries, including Spring Security and Spring Data
  • Data wrangling and dataflow, including data discovery, mining, analysis, cleaning, exploration, modeling, structuring, transformation, enrichment, and validation
  • Dataflow tools such as Apache NiFi
• Familiarity with Git for version control and Maven and/or npm for build automation
• Proficiency in software development within a Linux environment
• Experience with Atlassian task-tracking and documentation tools, including Jira and Confluence, or similar platforms
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
• Ability and willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and workflows as mission needs evolve

Salary range: $187,000 - $264,000
