Job summary

Jack invites a hands-on full-stack engineer to join a boutique investment fund in Stamford, CT. You will help shape proprietary research software, dashboards, and data pipelines, operating with minimal bureaucracy in a small team.

The role is the second engineer, offering ownership over time and potential exposure to investing aspects. A strong focus on end-to-end delivery and market-aware thinking is essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and extend the software and database systems behind the fund's quant research and risk management
• Build new internal tools from scratch across the stack
• Build agentic workflows and LLM integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic) for research edge
• Write and maintain data pipelines in Python, SQL and Airflow on AWS
• Work daily with senior quant researchers and software leads

Job description

We're hiring on behalf of an investment fund with top 1% returns since inception (~$700M AUM, high-20s net annualized). The fund is building proprietary software and AI across its whole research process, and this hire will be the second engineer on the team.

You'll stay a hands-on full-stack engineer, and your code will directly shape how the fund researches companies. You get real exposure to markets without leaving engineering.

What you'll do

• Maintain and extend the software and database systems behind the fund's quant research and risk management
• Build new internal tools from scratch across the stack
• Build agentic workflows and LLM integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic) that give the fund a real edge in research
• Write and maintain data pipelines in Python, SQL and Airflow on AWS
• Work every day with the head of quant research, risk and software. There are no layers of bureaucracy
• Take on more ownership over time, including the investing side if you want it

What we're looking for

• A strong full-stack foundation: TypeScript, React and Next.js, plus Python and SQL
• You've built real software end to end
• Experience with LLM APIs or agentic workflows is a big plus
• Curiosity about markets, investing or quant domains like sports analytics. You don't need a finance background
• Self-directed, detail-oriented, and happy on a very small team
• Able to work on-site in Stamford, CT, 5 days a week (relocation is fine)

Bonus points if you've built something just because you were curious, like a trading tool, a sports betting model or a data scraper.

Comp and details

• $160K to $230K base plus a discretionary bonus ($180K to $250K all in)
• Open to visa transfers (OPT, H1B transfer). No new H1B sponsorship
