Job description

This is a remote position; however, the candidate must reside in one of the following locations: San Francisco Bay Area, CA; Portland, ME; Boston, MA; or Chicago, IL.

About the Team/Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated, technically adept, and experienced professional to design, develop, and integrate BI applications and solutions, leading a team of high-performing engineers within our Data Technology organization. This role is crucial in shaping the future of our data platform, ensuring the scalability, reliability, and performance of our systems through software development and integration efforts. You will play a pivotal role in building a modern data platform designed to provide integrated, high-quality, rich, timely, and user-friendly data to support WEX's business growth. AI enablement with data is a key imperative for us, and our vision is to transform big data into big value for WEX and its customers through innovation, excellence, and partnership.

An ideal candidate will have proven experience in software development, with a focus on developing and integrating BI applications within complex data architectures. You should have a background in designing, implementing, and managing BI applications in large organizations with significant business impacts. Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills are essential, along with a motivation to succeed in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment serving both internal and external customers.

How you'll make an impact

  • Lead a team of engineers focusing on software development and BI solution integration, ensuring the data platform meets diverse needs.
  • Implement and standardize software development practices and BI solution usage across the team.
  • Design and develop integration modules and custom solutions, including AI-powered features within our data architecture.
  • Lead the development of custom applications to extend BI tool capabilities, enhancing functionality and user experience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect scalable, reliable, and high-performance data solutions.
  • Create and maintain architecture maps of BI solutions.
  • Manage software systems, including upgrades, migrations, and patches.
  • Implement best practices such as code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions is a plus).
  • Optimize system performance through enhancements and refactoring.
  • Drive automation initiatives to streamline development and reduce manual efforts.
  • Develop and utilize APIs/SDKs for system integration.
  • Ensure data security and compliance within solutions.
  • Lead capacity planning and disaster recovery planning.
  • Partner with the SRE team for monitoring and measurement of BI systems.
  • Collaborate with BI tool vendors and contribute to open-source projects.
  • Stay current with emerging BI and data platform technologies.
  • Participate in strategic planning to align technology with business goals.

Experience you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 4+ years in software development, especially in building data platforms or BI solutions.
  • Experience designing and implementing BI integration solutions within complex architectures.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in Java, C#, Go, and Python, including coding, testing, and monitoring.
  • Experience with AWS or Azure cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices, including CI/CD, code reviews, testing, and monitoring.
  • Experience with data security, IAM/IDP, and SSO/SAML.
  • Additional skills: system architecture, performance optimization, capacity planning, mentoring, and optional experience with ThoughtSpot, Tableau, DataIku.
