Job summary

Drivemode, a California-based division of Honda, is hiring for a senior engineer to architect and drive a line of companion apps for Honda/Acura vehicles. The role focuses on Android and iOS platforms with Kotlin Multiplatform, Jetpack Compose, and SwiftUI.

You’ll lead technical discussions, own the app roadmap, and collaborate across product, design, backend, and Honda teams to deliver high-quality features in a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience developing customer-facing apps at scale.
• Experience creating readable, maintainable code and mentoring engineers.
• Proficient with asynchronous programming, multi-threading, and DI.
• Experience guiding code reviews and providing feedback.

Responsibilities

• Develop a multiplatform vehicle companion app for iOS and Android using Kotlin Multiplatform, Jetpack Compose, and SwiftUI.
• Partner with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and peers across Honda.
• Engage in discussions and contribute ideas to product definitions and designs.
• Lead technical discussions, feature development, and architecture reviews.
• Define a technical vision and roadmap for the app with managers.
• Drive system design and architecture for robust solutions.
• Break down complex problems into simple tasks for developers.
• Build prototypes to validate requirements and test ideas.
• Advocate for unit and integration testing best practices.
• Design APIs and SDKs with external teams.
• Lead observability of non-functional requirements for a great user experience.
• Support engineering lifecycle in a regulated, safety-focused industry.

About this Role

You’ll contribute to the architecture and technical vision for a line of companion apps and backend services for the new generation of vehicles for the Honda and Acura brands. Target end-user platforms include Android and iOS.

We’re looking for someone who has a strong sense of ownership of product features and quality, is enthusiastic about trying new technologies, and does not hesitate to do whatever it takes to get things done, even if outside your usual responsibility area.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience with the development of customer-facing apps at scale, involving prototyping, creating, and maintaining features from concept to production
• Team player with a positive attitude and who is committed to continuously improving the team, the product, and the company
• Experience creating readable, thoughtful, and maintainable code
• Experience utilizing asynchronous programming, multi-threading, dependency injection, and reflection
• Mentor other engineers through code reviews, as well as providing guidance and feedback

$157,000 - $180,000 a year

This reflects the base salary for the position. In addition, the role offers a comprehensive benefits package and a progressive bonus program. The actual compensation package is determined by a variety of factors unique to each candidate, including demonstrated skills, depth and relevance of experience, and role-specific considerations. We welcome open conversations about compensation during initial discussions with all candidates.
