Job summary

Peregrine Advisors LLC, based in the Washington, DC area, is seeking a senior software engineer to design and deliver cloud-native Python services on AWS. You will own backend and frontend work, lead design reviews, and mentor other developers in a hybrid, client-facing setting.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional back-end Python development experience.

At Peregrine Advisors, you will own the design and delivery of cloud-native Python services on Amazon Web Services (AWS), carrying each one from refinement through production. But we hire people, not seats. As the work evolves, you will move to where the hardest problems are.

This is a hybrid work arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and the commuting cadence varies by assignment. The initial engagement requires United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.

Your first project

Your First Project Will Likely Have You Making The Design Decisions That Connect a Solution's Components And Carrying The Result Through Production. Depending On The Assignment, You May

• Design the Python services and application components that make up your part of the platform, then deliver them.
• Build automated workflows on AWS Lambda, Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), and Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS).
• Design the application programming interfaces (APIs), integrations, and data flows that connect your services to the rest of the platform.
• Build and improve the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automated tests your team ships through, and the way it supports production.
• Lead code reviews, settle design tradeoffs, work through hard production issues, and mentor the developers around you.
• Use artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted development tools to move faster on implementation and review, and stay accountable for the code you deliver.
• Lead quality development practices, including test-driven development, code reviews, and application security standards.
• Develop accurate project estimates and support project planning, delivery forecasting, and resource allocation activities.

You deliver an integrated solution whose parts work together and hold one quality bar. You automate the validations and workflows that used to live in a spreadsheet, and you build the developers around you through the way you work.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional hands-on back-end software development experience using Python
• 5+ years of hands-on front-end software development experience using React.js
Bachelor's degree
• Strong hands-on experience building cloud-native applications on AWS, including AWS Lambda, Amazon S3, Amazon SQS, and Amazon RDS
• Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
• Strong experience with NoSQL databases, for example MongoDB or DynamoDB
• Advanced knowledge of distributed systems, software architecture, design patterns, object-oriented programming, database design, and data modeling
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Experience leading Agile delivery in Scrum or Kanban, with work tracked in an issue tracker such as Jira
• Hands-on use of AI-assisted developer tools such as Amazon Q Developer or GitHub Copilot
• Demonstrated ability to lead a development team and mentor its developers
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams
• Proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred

• An AWS or Python certification
• Experience in federal information technology
• Experience leading technical delivery teams in a client-facing consulting environment
• Experience implementing DevSecOps best practices and CI/CD pipelines

Benefits

This is a full-time W-2 position with a salary of $150,000 to $170,000 per year.
