Job summary

Peregrine Advisors in the Washington, DC area seeks a Software Engineer to build Python applications on AWS and deliver cloud-based solutions for government programs. You will integrate external and internal systems, create data pipelines, and own production code.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years of software development, a Bachelor's degree, and strong AWS, DB, and Agile experience. This is a hybrid, full-time role with citizenship and security considerations.

At Peregrine Advisors, you will develop Python applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and take responsibility for the components you deliver. But we hire people, not seats. As the work evolves, you will learn new systems and tools, take on greater responsibility, and help develop the firm’s capabilities, tools, and lines of business. We move our best to where the hardest problems are.

This is a full-time W-2 position with a salary of $120,000 to $140,000 per year. It is a hybrid work arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and the commuting cadence varies by assignment. The initial engagement is expected to be one to two days a week on site in DC. The initial engagement requires United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.

Your first project

• Integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products with frameworks developed in-house.
• Build internal and external application programming interface (API) connections.
• Build data and document pipelines that automate manual, paper-based work.
• Design, develop, and implement Python-based enterprise solutions that meet client requirements.
• Support quality development practices, including test-driven development and automated testing.

You deliver tested, working code you own through production, including the defects you find and fix. You automate business operations that replace manual checks, validations, and spreadsheet workflows, and you build deployment pipelines that make releasing services routine.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software development experience
• Bachelor’s degree
• Familiarity with cloud development on Amazon Web Services (AWS), including AWS Lambda and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)
• Ability to turn a defined specification into working, tested code and own it through to production, using object-oriented design, design patterns, and data modeling
• Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
• Experience working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or DynamoDB
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Experience delivering within an Agile framework such as Scrum or Kanban, using an issue tracker such as Jira
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact directly with non-technical client stakeholders and translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Proficiency in creating accurate estimates for assigned tasks and work effortsProficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred

• Hands-on delivery of production workloads on Amazon Web Services (AWS), an AWS certification, or a Python certification
• Federal information technology experience
• Experience working in a client-facing consulting environment
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted developer tooling
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
