Job description

About The Company

Iris Software Inc. is recruiting on behalf of a large insurance firm seeking an experienced technology leader to support the development and operation of its enterprise applications. The client’s technology environment includes interconnected systems, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, and business‑critical services. This opportunity is suited to a hands‑on developer who can deliver reliable software while helping teams improve engineering practices, system performance, and operational resilience.

About The Role

The Lead Full Stack Python Developer will design, build, test, and support complex applications and web service integrations across the organization. This is a long‑term contract position with an option to hire. The role is 100% remote and based in Chicago, Illinois. The successful candidate will lead technical delivery across backend services, frontend features, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD workflows, with Python as the primary backend language and React.js or Angular used for frontend development.

You will work closely with product, quality assurance, database administration, and technical services teams to turn business and technical requirements into scalable solutions. The role also includes supporting the LifePRO application, contributing to architecture and roadmap discussions, and using AI‑powered development tools, including Claude, to accelerate delivery and strengthen engineering workflows.

Qualifications

Candidates should have substantial experience designing and developing full‑stack applications and web services in enterprise environments. Strong Python development skills and experience with React.js or Angular are required, along with practical knowledge of APIs, SQL, and PostgreSQL or SQL Server. Familiarity with .NET environments is also required.

Applicants should bring hands‑on experience with AWS, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines, as well as the ability to troubleshoot production systems and improve deployment reliability. Experience with software testing, data quality, system integrations, and technical documentation is important. Knowledge of database objects and related tools, including stored procedures, SSRS, and SSIS, is valuable. The ideal candidate communicates effectively, collaborates across disciplines, reviews code constructively, and can guide technical decisions. Experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or Gemini is an advantage.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Python services, APIs, web applications, and integrations. Deliver frontend features as needed and help ensure a consistent, dependable user experience across connected systems. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, manage cloud infrastructure with Terraform, and support application deployments in AWS.

Partner with database administrators to design and maintain SQL Server tables, stored procedures, SSRS reports, and SSIS packages, while supporting routine data maintenance and preserving data integrity. Develop and execute program‑level and system‑level test plans; monitor scheduled jobs and production data; diagnose defects; and implement root‑cause fixes. Monitor resource utilization, performance, and reliability across applications and services.

Lead LifePRO application support, including the evaluation, testing, and deployment of periodic releases and new functionality. Collaborate with product, QA, and engineering colleagues to plan and deliver features, review code, share knowledge, and contribute to architecture and technical roadmap decisions. Create logical diagrams for current and future states, and maintain clear application, design, architecture, standards, disaster recovery, and data center documentation. Use AI‑powered tools thoughtfully to support development, code quality, and engineering efficiency.

Benefits

This long‑term contract offers an option to hire and the flexibility of a 100% remote work arrangement. You will contribute to meaningful technology initiatives within a large insurance organization, collaborate with experienced teams, and work across modern application development, cloud, automation, and AI‑assisted engineering practices. Contract‑specific compensation, benefits, and conversion details will be discussed during the hiring process.

Equal Opportunity

Iris Software Inc. and its client are committed to providing equal employment opportunities. Applicants will be considered without regard to characteristics protected by applicable law.
