Full Stack Developer, Senior - Data Management

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer to play a key role in data management, portal maintenance, and program coordination, ensuring interoperability with federal research infrastructures while maintaining compliance with security and data privacy standards such as FISMA and HIPAA. This senior technical position requires expertise in complex data systems, portal development, secure cloud architectures, and bioinformatics data standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data management systems supporting storage, quality control, retrieval, visualization, and sharing of program data.
  • Ensure interoperability with standards like FAIR and integration with federal repositories (e.g., ImmPort, IEDB, CEIRR).
  • Create tools for metadata management, data collection, harmonization, tracking, visualization, and analysis.
  • Implement secure de-identification and anonymization processes for human data per HIPAA, Common Rule, and NIH policies.
  • Perform advanced data analyses and develop data integration pipelines for diverse datasets.
  • Generate data quality reports and support data mining activities for investigators.
Portal Development
  • Develop and maintain secure client portals for data sharing and engagement.
  • Add features for browsing, sample tracking, SOP sharing, status visualization, and publication aggregation.
  • Design query tools supporting data reporting, sample management, and program coordination.
Quality and Interoperability
  • Automate quality control for incoming data.
  • Maintain version control for documentation, software, and databases.
  • Enforce FAIR data-sharing guidelines and support dissemination to public databases.
Program Coordination
  • Develop systems for tracking vaccine development, reagents, and samples.
  • Support coordination, meetings, and reporting for working groups.
  • Develop user guides, SOPs, and provide technical support and training.
  • Assist in manuscript preparation with data and system documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related field.
  • 8+ years experience in full stack development for secure, large-scale data systems.
  • Experience with federal repositories and bioinformatics research data.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, containerization, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, JavaScript, Java, and frameworks like React, Angular, Django.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, NoSQL, and data architecture.
  • Experience designing interoperable systems meeting government standards (FAIR, HIPAA, FISMA).
  • Experience with data visualization tools and automated QA workflows.
Compensation & Benefits

The projected salary range is $120,600 to $149,000 annually, with a target of $134,800, based on experience and location in the Washington, D.C. area. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, and professional development.
