Job summary

Bold Penguin is seeking a Remote Full Stack Developer to design, build, and maintain internal apps, developer portals, and APIs that empower engineering and cross-functional teams. You will streamline workflows, build interfaces for ephemeral testing environments in CI/CD pipelines, and construct data integration pipelines.

Responsibilities include creating self-service interfaces, automating processes, and ensuring secure, observable, scalable systems.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices in cloud-native environments.
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases ( PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, MongoDB, Redis ).
  • Frontend experience with JavaScript/TypeScript for interactive dashboards.
  • Solid understanding of containerization (Docker) and cloud deployments (AWS).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines like GitHub Actions or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Knowledge of security/auth standards (OAuth2, OIDC).

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust automated data pipelines across internal systems and third-party services.

  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to gather requirements and improve tooling.

Your Role

As a Full Stack Developer on our team, you will design, build, and maintain internal applications, developer portals, automated workflows, and APIs that empower our engineering and cross-functional teams across the organization. You will streamline internal workflows, build user-friendly interfaces and services for provisioning ephemeral testing environments within CI/CD pipelines, construct efficient data integration pipelines, and collaborate with peers to continuously improve tooling so teams can build and ship faster.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and deploy full-stack web applications, internal developer portals, and microservices that automate manual processes across engineering and business teams.
  • Build self-service web interfaces, CLI tools, and automated backend services to provision ephemera .*t environments, triggers, and pipelines within our CI/CD systems.
  • Develop robust automated data pipelines to move, transform, and integrate data across internal systems and third-party services.
  • Craft intuitive, responsive user interfaces and dashboards that give internal stakeholders real-time visibility into workflow automation, deployment status, and platform metrics.
  • Apply security best practices, identity/auth controls, unit/integration testing, and compliance guardrails across full-stack applications and data workflows.
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and tracing across applications and automated services to ensure high availability, performance, and clear incident visibility.
  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to gather requirements, iterate on feedback, and deliver high-impact developer experiences.

Your Location

This is a fully remote role, with the exception of onboarding and optional in-office events.

Skills & Experience
  • 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong backend development skills (Python or Ruby preferred), with experience building RESTful APIs and microservices in cloud-native environments.
  • Experience working with relational and non-relational database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, MongoDB, Redis).
  • Frontend development experience building interactive web applications and dashboards using JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of containerization (Docker) and deploying/debugging full-stack applications in cloud environments (particularly AWS).
  • Experience consuming, configuring, or extending CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline) to automate build, test, and release processes.
  • Good understanding of software architecture, data modeling, automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end), and security/authentication standards (OAuth2, OIDC).
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience developing internal developer tools, CLI utilities, or self-service developer portals (e.g., Backstage)
  • Experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, or Next.js)
  • Experience building or supporting data pipelines and ETL processes (e.g., Apache Spark, AWS Glue, Snowflake)
  • Familiarity with basic Infrastructure as Code concepts (Terraform, AWS CDK) and monitoring/observability platforms (DataDog, Grafana)
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours per day), at a desk working on a computer.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment for extended periods of time, including but not limited to, a mouse, keyboard, phone and video conferencing.
