Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Full Stack Developer (Edifecs Lead) for a remote role serving the Veterans Affairs program. The job offers full-time employment with a Public Trust (MBI) clearance requirement and a salary range of $109,623–$126,790 per year.

The Edifecs Lead will direct the Edifecs platform, oversee staffing and roadmap execution, and collaborate with product, architecture, and cloud teams to ensure secure, compliant, and scalable operations.

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Full Stack Developer ( Edifecs Lead) Location: Remote Department: Veterans Affairs (VA) Type: Full Time Min. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Act as the Edifecs Platform Manager leading the Edifecs application support organization, ensuring operational stability, scalability, compliance, and strategic alignment
• Provide technical oversight, manage staffing, and drive roadmap execution
• Partner with product, architecture, vendor, and business teams
• Guide architecture decisions, modernization efforts, cloud scalability, and performance strategies
• Configure and maintain XEServer, XEngine, Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs), SpecBuilder, and related modules
• Guide Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Analysts with the building, deployment, and optimization of Edifecs processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows
• Analyze and resolve mapping issues, validation failures, functional errors, and performance bottlenecks
• Manage system logging, Java Virtual Machine (JVM) tuning, and certificate/keystore configurations
• Support release deployments, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades
• Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, Cloud teams, and business teams

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong knowledge of EDIFECS architecture and transaction lifecycles
• Strong experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environments
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• A hands‑on understanding of the platform architecture and operational behaviors across the following: Edifecs XEServer (orchestrations, batch flows, execution contexts) XEngine (validation, rulesets, canonical structures) TPM (trading partner configuration, routes, agreements) EDI Gateway (visibility, audit, search, and reprocessing) SpecBuilder (Implementation Guide (IG) definitions, map development)
• Experience with EDI Integration and Interface Management of all technical aspects of inbound/outbound connectivity, consistent with the following: Applicability Statement 2 (AS2), Secure File Transfer Portal (SFTP), File Transfer Protocol Secure (FTPS), Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) channels
• Application Programming Interface (API)-based integrations and gateway services
• Experience with EDI troubleshooting providing root‑cause analysis of transaction failures, mapping/misalignment defects, partner‑specific rejection patterns, batch job flow failures, and throughput/performance degradation
• Experience with job throughput optimization, engine performance tuning, JVM tuning and memory management, high availability and failover orchestration, and monitoring dashboards for proactive detection
• An understanding of AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance sizing, Operating System (OS) tuning, storage Input/Output (I/O) patterns, file transfer endpoints, routing, firewall coordination, network path debugging, and Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) certificate lifecycle management
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative workflows
• Compliance, audit, and partner governance knowledge
• Infrastructure as code experience (Ansible and Terraform)
• A strong ability to communicate technical architecture decisions and trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders
• Experience gathering and translating business reporting requirements into technical data models
• Comfort driving ambiguous architecture decisions to resolution with limited direction
• Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban) and JIRA
• Strong documentation habits, including architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and migration runbooks
• An ability to work collaboratively with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless production system operations

• EDIFECS certification

Desired experience

• Deep hands‑on EDIFECS experience in Electronic Data Interchange X.12 (EDI) Transactions Standards involving key X12 workflows involving the following transactions: X.12 medical claims (837, 834, 277, etc) 270/271 and 278 transactions
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements in cloud data architecture
• Experience with healthcare payer/PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations
• AWS certification in a bonus

Formal Education

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
