Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a software engineer to design and implement scalable Python backends and modern React frontends for AI-driven applications. You will lead system design discussions and communicate complex concepts to clients, ensuring secure, scalable solutions and productive collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities include building end-to-end RAG workflows, optimizing data pipelines with SQL and Python, and integrating AI components with semantic layers and knowledge graphs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Data Science, Math, or related field.
• 2–5 years of professional software development experience (backend & frontend).
• Proficiency in Python or Java for backend development.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable Python backend microservices and intuitive React/TypeScript frontend interfaces for AI-driven applications
• Lead system component design and communicate designs to clients
• Design and implement production-ready solutions with security, access-control, and scalability in mind
• Implement agentic AI solutions including orchestration patterns and memory/retrieval integration

Job description

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable Python backend microservices and intuitive React/Vue frontend interfaces for AI-driven applications
• Lead system component design and communicate designs to technical and non-technical clients
• Design and implement production-ready solutions meeting security, access-control, scalability, and client requirements
• Implement agentic AI solutions, including orchestration patterns, tool use, and memory/retrieval integration
• Design and operate end-to-end RAG workflows, including retrieval architecture, embedding strategies, and response evaluation
• Lead and optimize data pipelines for ingesting and enriching structured and unstructured content using SQL, Python, and other scripting or querying strategies
• Integrate AI components with semantic layers and knowledge graph implementations
• Design, configure, and advise clients on production-grade security, RBAC/ABAC access control, and ingress/egress network architecture
• Design and develop middleware integration layers for decoupled systems, including content auto-tagging and search experiences
• Collaborate with data subject matter experts, business users, and customer development teams to understand domains and communicate technical insights

Requirements

• Must live within a comfortable, commutable distance of the Arlington, VA office
• Willingness to be on-site 2 days a week
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Math, or a related technical field
• 2–5 years of professional software development experience focused on backend and frontend technologies
• Proficiency in Python or Java for backend development
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, such as React and TypeScript
• Familiarity with data modeling, database architecture, and SQL
• Experience with Git
• Experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions
• Experience delivering solutions using Agile delivery practices
• Proficiency using Generative AI tools throughout the full SDLC, including ADR generation, code drafting, test-case creation, and product documentation
• Ability to facilitate meetings, provide briefings, and present work products and solution design directly to clients
• Must not require employer immigration support or sponsorship for employment authorization
• Preferred: Experience with RDF graph databases, SPARQL, or Linked Data technologies
• Preferred: Experience with Docker and AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Preferred: Experience monitoring AI components, including latency, success rate, and retrieval quality
• Preferred: Exposure to ontology/taxonomy design or management tools, such as Progress Semaphore or PoolParty
• Preferred: Experience designing, building, and optimizing RAG pipelines and applying NLP techniques to unstructured data
