Job summary

EmpowerMama is a PA Medicaid-enrolled doula agency seeking full spectrum doulas to provide non-medical support from pregnancy through early parenthood. Home-based and community care, with a focus on emotional, informational, and physical wellbeing, is offered.

Compensation is per session of care delivered; employment is contracted. Fluency in English, required training, and a valid Medicaid provider enrollment are essential to join this mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in English.
• Completion of a full spectrum or postpartum doula training program and certification; birth doula certification preferred.
• Enrollment as a PA Medicaid provider is required.
• Reliable transportation for home visits and birth support within the service area.
• Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills; cultural competency.
• In-depth knowledge of pregnancy, birth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn health.
• Positive, compassionate, patient and nurturing demeanor; non-judgmental approach.
• Ability to work flexible hours including on-call availability for births.
• Must pass a background check and be PCB Doula certified or eligible.
• CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Birth Support: Provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during labor and delivery.
• Emotional Support: Offer reassurance to expectant and new parents during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
• Physical Comfort: Assist with comfort measures during labor and recovery, including rest opportunities.
• Infant Care: Demonstrate newborn care techniques such as feeding, diapering, and soothing.
• Informational Support: Provide evidence-based information on pregnancy, birth options, breastfeeding, and postpartum.
• Advocacy: Act as an advocate for families in communication with healthcare providers and resources.
• Household Organization: Help with light duties to support recovery and bonding time.
• Sibling Support: Help older siblings adjust and provide care if needed.
• Referrals: Connect families with additional resources and support services as needed.
