Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory in Rockford, IL is seeking a full-time Bookkeeper to manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance for our thrift store operations. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, assist with budget preparation, tax filings, and compliance with GAAP, coordinating with HR on pension contributions and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Perform full charge bookkeeping and maintain GAAP compliance.
• Process accounts payable and receivable transactions.
• Review and post bi-weekly payroll journals.
• Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns.
• Maintain control procedures for Food Stamps and Petty Cash.
• Process billing and reconciliation for internal and external vouchers.
• Prepare monthly financial reports and audit schedules.
• Reconcile payroll deductions and exchange accounts.
• Work with HR staff on pension contribution reports.
• Generate and submit Rags Sales & Vehicle Sales Reports.
• Assist with budget preparations and data entry.
• Collaborate with ARC Command Center for month/year-end closing.
• Supervise accounting department staff.
• Review and approve vendor checks before release.
• Maintain oversight of accounts and financial procedures.
