Job summary

State of Oregon is seeking a Natural Resource Specialist 1 to coordinate fuels-reduction projects and grant programs across rural districts. You will liaise with fire districts, extension agents, and local governments while applying forest management best practices.

The role requires field and administrative duties, including GPS/GIS documentation, progress tracking, and grant deliverables. A degree or experience in forestry is required, with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in Forestry or a closely related natural resource field OR a Bachelor's degree in Forestry or closely related field.
• Driver’s License required; state vehicle operation for official business.
• Knowledge of fuels management, wildfire behavior, and fire-risk reduction practices.

Responsibilities

• Administer fuels-hazard abatement grant projects and track deliverables.
• Provide outreach and technical guidance to landowners and community partners.
• Coordinate inspections, planning, and compliance checks; use GIS/GPS to document progress.
• Support wildfire emergency operations and incident response as needed.
• Assist in budgeting, grants administration, and reporting to meet federal requirements.
