Job summary

US Foods is seeking a Fueler for our Marrero, LA yard. The role involves refueling tractors and trailers, performing safety inspections, and keeping precise fuel records.

You will be responsible for monitoring tank levels and performing routine maintenance checks while adhering to all DOT regulations and safety policies. The position requires the ability to work Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM CST, in outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; must read, write and communicate in English for safety and compliance.
  • Basic math skills (add/subtract/multiply/divide).
  • CDL Class A with endorsements and DOT qualification preferred.
  • DOT medical requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fuel tractors and trailers safely and timely.
  • Perform a 10-point fuel island safety inspection.

The primary function of this position is to refuel all tractors and trailers that are returned to the yard on a daily basis. Fueler must have strong organizational skills to track, monitor and measure the fuel being dispenses into each unit. Keeping accurate nightly records to insure all trucks are fueled on time is critical. Recording and monitoring tank levels to insure we have fuel in part of job responsibility. Checking fluids, oil and routine maintenance checks on tractors and reefer units is part of daily responsibility.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM CST

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform a 10-point fuel island safety inspection on fleet equipment.
  • Fuel tractors, trailers, and other company equipment in a safe and timely manner.
  • Check and maintain oil levels in all fleet equipment.
  • Accurately maintain fuel records and related documentation.
  • Conduct minor cleaning and housekeeping duties on fleet equipment and work areas.
  • Identify and report equipment deficiencies, safety issues, or maintenance needs.
  • Assist with trailer movement and backing as required.
  • Apply tire chains when necessary.
  • Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT), company, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred; however, candidates must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English as required for job performance and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Basic math skills required, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with appropriate endorsements and DOT qualification preferred.
  • Ability to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) medical requirements preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to use, or learn to use, all equipment, tools, and technology required to perform job duties.
  • Commitment to performing all work functions safely and in accordance with company policies.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts and required overtime as needed.
  • Ability to learn and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS) and properly handle materials used within the scope of work.
  • Ability to apply tire chains when required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and successfully back trailers within one week of employment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all climates and extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow established safety practices, procedures, and company policies.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work around moving vehicles, fuel systems, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to perform duties in varying weather and environmental conditions.
Work Environment

Primarily performed outdoors in a transportation and fleet maintenance environment. Exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, fuel products, diesel exhaust, and vehicle traffic. Requires adherence to all safety protocols and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
