Position Overview
Reliance One, Inc. is hiring a Fuel Systems Design Release Engineer for one of our established clients in the automotive industry.
This position is responsible for the design, development, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), validation, and production release of automotive fuel‑system components. Primary components include fuel and urea/DEF tanks, fuel delivery modules, and related delivery systems.
The ideal candidate has hands‑on Design Release Engineer, Product Engineer, or Component Engineer experience and can successfully coordinate technical activities among suppliers, manufacturing plants, validation laboratories, program teams, quality organizations, and other engineering groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, validation, and production release of automotive fuel‑system components.
- Support fuel tanks, urea/DEF tanks, fuel delivery modules, fuel pumps, and related systems.
- Manage component development activities from concept through production launch.
- Lead or support Advanced Product Quality Planning activities.
- Develop, maintain, and execute validation plans, including Design Verification Plan and Report activities.
- Coordinate testing, prototype builds, issue resolution, and product‑validation activities.
- Work directly with suppliers to manage technical deliverables, timing, quality, and production readiness.
- Collaborate with vehicle program teams, CAE engineers, testing laboratories, prototype teams, supplier operations, quality groups, and manufacturing plants.
- Support Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and other product‑quality planning activities.
- Investigate product concerns, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive quality improvements, value optimization, weight reduction, and product‑efficiency initiatives.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, design requirements, and technical documentation.
- Communicate product status, risks, timing, and recommendations to management and project stakeholders.
- Support vehicle‑level evaluations and travel to suppliers, plants, or testing locations as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited program or equivalent.
- Two to five years of relevant automotive engineering experience.
- Professional experience as a Design Release Engineer, Product Engineer, Component Engineer, or comparable product‑development engineer.
- Experience involving automotive fuel systems or similar mechanical components.
- Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning processes.
- Experience supporting component development, validation, and production release activities.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with suppliers, manufacturing plants, validation laboratories, program teams, and quality organizations.
- Strong problem‑solving, organization, and project‑management skills.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as required.
- Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to CAD design or drafting without design‑release or component‑ownership responsibilities may not meet the requirements for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct fuel‑tank design and release experience.
- Fuel delivery module or fuel‑pump experience.
- Urea or diesel exhaust fluid tank‑system experience.
- Automotive OEM fuel‑system experience.
- Injection‑molding or blow‑molding experience.
- Experience developing or supporting DFMEAs.
- Design for Six Sigma certification or training.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience with NX, Teamcenter, or similar CAD and product lifecycle management systems.
- Virtual simulation experience.
- Knowledge of fastener selection and torque applications.
- Experience developing or executing DVP&R documentation.
