Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Mechanical/Automotive Engineer to support the design, testing, and continuous improvement of fuel system components and engine assemblies. You will work closely with senior engineers, CAE teams, suppliers, and manufacturing to drive component performance and reliability.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering and 6 months to 1 year of related experience, with CAD/CAE/CFD/FEA proficiency. Travel up to 20% locally is expected.

Qualifications

  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience in fuel systems or automotive engineering.
  • Strong fundamentals in engine components, fuel injection, and combustion.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAE/CFD/FEA and engineering analysis concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and engineering of core engine and fuel system components.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, CAE teams, suppliers, and manufacturing.
  • Assist with design reviews and engineering analysis of performance and reliability.
  • Support DFMEA, DVP&R, specifications, and change documentation.
  • Assist with prototype parts ordering, builds, testing, and DV/PV activities.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for engine components.
  • Participate in component, engine, and vehicle testing and post-test reviews.
  • Support APQP activities, supplier meetings, and production launches.
  • Contribute to engineering changes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop understanding of fuel injection systems and automotive engineering requirements.

Position Description
  • Support the development and engineering of core engine and fuel system components, including high-pressure fuel pumps, direct injection rails, high-pressure fuel lines, port fuel injection (PFI) rails, fuel injectors, and other related engine components.
  • Work closely with senior engineers, designers, CAE teams, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to support component design, development, testing, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with design reviews and engineering analysis to evaluate component performance, reliability, durability, and system requirements.
  • Support engineering documentation, including DFMEA, DVP&R, engineering specifications, and design change documentation.
  • Assist with prototype part ordering, component builds, development testing, and tracking of DV/PV activities.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to fuel system, combustion, or engine component issues.
  • Participate in component, engine, and vehicle testing and assist with post-test reviews and failure analysis.
  • Support APQP activities, supplier meetings, manufacturing reviews, and product development activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with engineering changes, production launch activities, service documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop a working understanding of fuel injection systems, internal combustion engine operation, combustion processes, fluid mechanics, and automotive engineering requirements.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience, internship/co-op, research, or hands-on project experience in fuel systems, combustion, internal combustion engines, piston/engine components, or related automotive engineering.
  • Basic understanding of automotive fuel injection systems, internal combustion engines, combustion processes, or fluid systems.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design and analysis concepts, including CAD, CAE, CFD, FEA, and GD&T.
  • Basic understanding of fluid flow, pressure, sealing, and engineering analysis concepts.
  • Basic understanding of engineering development, testing, and problem-solving processes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, teamwork, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly, manage multiple activities, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 0–20%, primarily locally, with occasional travel to facilities in the US, Canada, or Mexico.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, co-op, academic research, or hands-on project experience involving combustion, fuel injection, internal combustion engines, piston/engine components, or related systems.
  • Experience or academic exposure to combustion testing, engine testing, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or propulsion systems.
  • Familiarity with CAD, CAE, CFD, MATLAB, or other engineering analysis tools.
  • Basic understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, or automotive product development processes.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or a related engineering discipline.
