Job summary

Stewart's Shops in Vermont is seeking a Fuel Compliance Inspector and Maintenance person to join our Gas Marketing team. The role ensures fueling facilities meet state and federal regulations for underground and above-ground tanks, and includes light testing and maintenance duties.

You will perform inspections, assist in state inspections, train staff, and handle routine sensor testing and minor repairs. Outdoor work year-round and occasional travel (2-3 times/month) are required.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Honest, safety- and detail-oriented with willingness to work outdoors year-round.
• Clean driving record; ability to travel 2–3 times per month.
• Comfortable with electronics and computers; basic repair/maintenance experience is a plus.

Stewart’s Shops is looking for a Fuel Compliance Inspector and Maintenance person to join our Gas Marketing department. The primary role is to ensure that our fueling facilities are in compliance with State and Federal regulations for underground and above-ground storage tanks. Additionally, the right candidate will learn and perform minor equipment testing & maintenance, air machine installation, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document inspections of fuel dispensing facilities.
• Assist NYS DEC during State inspections of our facilities.
• Assist in compliance training of shop and district employees.
• Perform routine sensor testing & troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot and repair minor facility maintenance issues.

Requirements

• Honest work ethic with the ability to work independently.
• Strong communication skills.
• Safety- and detail-oriented.
• Willingness to work outdoors year-round.
• Clean driving record and availability to travel out of town 2-3 times per month.
• Comfortable with electronics and computers.
• Experience with paints, sheet metal, fiberglass repair and other materials like epoxies and sealants as well as underground storage tank systems is a plus, but can be taught.

Schedule & Pay

• Typical 40hr work week, some limited overtime. Flexible schedule. No weekends unless there’s a rare emergency.
• Can work 4 ten-hour shifts to max productivity with driving but can also work 5 eight-hour shifts if candidate is flexible on longer road days.
• Starting Pay: $26-30/hr.
