Job summary

OSS Health in Warner Robins, GA is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team under the supervision of registered nurses. You will scrub in all services, maintain sterile fields, and assist the surgeon by passing instruments during procedures.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, BLS or ability to obtain within a year, and preferred Surgical Technologist certification with perioperative experience.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist preferred; new grads must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
• BLS certification required or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Previous perioperative experience as a surgical technologist.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and clean the surgical suite as directed by the circulating nurse.
• Set up and maintain the sterile surgical field.
• Pass instruments to the surgeon during operations.
• Maintain sponge, needle and instrument counts.
• Anticipate needs of the operative team and deliver instruments quickly.
• Ensure accurate sterilization methods and aseptic environment.
• Assist with patient transfers and positioning.
• Report unusual occurrences to the manager.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of qualified professional registered nurses, and in accordance with established procedures and aseptic principles, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for the set-up and maintenance of the surgical field and will assist the surgeon during operative procedures. Possesses the ability to scrub all cases in all services and demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation, their uses, and accurate methods of sterilization and maintains an aseptic controlled environment. Assists in processes to streamline care, reduce inefficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs. Supports the philosophy and goals of OSS Orthopaedic Hospital.

SCHEDULE:

(4) 10hr shifts/week, 6:30am - 5:00pm. No on-call, weekends or holidays!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists with preparation and cleaning of surgical suite as directed by the circulating nurse.
• Sets up and maintains the sterile surgical field.
• Assists the surgeon by passing instruments during operations.
• Performs sponge, needle and instrument count.
• Anticipates needs of operative team and delivers necessary instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently.
• Demonstrates knowledge of accurate methods of sterilization and maintains an aseptic controlled environment.
• Transports patients and assists with transferring patients from stretcher to table and vice versa.
• Assists with lifting and positioning patient.
• Report unusual occurrences to the manager
• Contributes to the efficient and productive operation of the Operating Room.
• Level II:
• May assist with training and/or mentoring newly hired staff.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or its equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist strongly preferred.
  • New Surg Tech graduates must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • PA 2020 Act 80, Chapter 5 Surgical Tech Certification Requirement exemptions will be considered.
• BLS certification required or an ability to obtain within (1) year.
• Previous work experience in a Perioperative area as a surgical technologist.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.
• Must be able to plan and organize work.
• Must have proficient computer skills.
• Must have professional and effective communication skills and be able to promote effective communication at all levels.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
