Job summary

WVU Medicine Harrison Community Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff. You will greet patients, collect initial information, take vital signs, and prepare exam rooms for visits and procedures.

You will also assist with tests, scheduling, and basic office duties to ensure smooth clinic operations. The position requires a Medical Assistant program completion or 1 year in a clinical setting, plus BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

• Greets and escorts patient to exam rooms; obtains initial information and vital signs.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and supplies.
• Assists with and/or performs exams, tests, and procedures.

Performs basic nursing skills, and/or serves under the direction and supervision of the practice physician and/or registered nursing staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

• Completion of healthcare education course work.

Experience

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greets and escorts patient to exam rooms; prepares for physician visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and availability of supplies.
• Assists with and/or performs exams, tests, and procedures.
• Schedules appointments and sets up referral contacts as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• MEDIUM WORK - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
