The Custodian is a service level position requiring the ability toorganize work routines to cover assigned square footage, useavailable tools and equipment, and replenish supplies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Education and Experience: The position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and 1year custodial experience.
The position requires a basic knowledge of the methods, materials,tools and equipment used in custodial care and routine facilitiesmaintenance. Must have a basic knowledge of work hazards and safework techniques, including lifting procedures. Requires knowledgeof use and application and proper safety precautions with chemicalsand cleaning agents. Requires basic knowledge of common buildingrepairs. Requires sufficient reading and writing ability to readwork instructions and document work activity onto standardizedforms. Requires basic arithmetic to make measurements. Requiressufficient human relations skills to exercise courtesy when dealingwith others.
Must be able to observe all safety precautions and procedures.Requires the ability to operate custodial tools and equipment suchas, but not limited to, vacuums, floor care equipment, and restroomcleaning equipment. Requires the ability to learn and be certifiedto use a forklift. Requires the ability to perform routinemaintenance tasks and to determine when to refer more complexmaintenance requirements to a supervisor. Must be able to followoral and written directions and read MSDS sheets. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively. Must be able to learn andapply College policies and procedures within a reasonable period oftime. Must be able to attend materials awareness and blood bornepathogens exposure training within a reasonable period of time.Requires the ability to work productively and cooperatively withothers.
Incumbents must be able to function effectively indoors andoutdoors engaged in work of primarily an active nature. Requiresthe ability to maintain cardiovascular fitness to engage instrenuous physical labor. Requires near visual acuity to write, toread directions and product labels, and to observe environmentalconditions. Requires sufficient hearing and speech for ordinarycommunication, to hear sound prompts from equipment, and todetermine if equipment is functioning properly. Requires manual andfinger dexterity to write and to clean and make minor repairs.Requires the ability to lift (from overhead, waist and floorlevels, max. 50 lbs.), carry (max. 50 lbs.), push, pull, bend,squat, reach (from low, level, and overhead), and twist and turnhead and trunk to clean and to remove trash, move furniture andequipment. Requires the ability to stand and walk for extendedperiods of time.
May require a valid driver's license.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors where significant health andsafety considerations exist from physical labor and handling ofmaterials that include waste and blood born pathogens.
Grade 23 on District Classified Salary Schedule ($4,417.76/month) +2.5% swing shift differential.

Hours of employment are: Swing Shift (1 position): Monday thru Friday 12:30PM to9:00PM
Initial placement of employees on Classified Salary schedule is at Step 1. After six months of successful probationary employment, employee is placed at Step 2.
Employment is to be effective as soon as possible followingcompletion of the selection process.
Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtainfingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the StateDepartment of Justice and remit the required fee for processing thefingerprints, Federal Bureau of Investigation (no fee if obtainedat Cerritos College Campus Police Station), produce an originalsocial security card, and submit a TB Risk Assessment reviewed andsigned by a health professional before employment.
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing ofloyalty oath per Government Codes 3100-3109.
Candidates must be able to provide proof of California residencyprior to employment.
