Job summary

Vallarta Supermarkets in Lancaster, CA is seeking a Fruteria Clerk to prepare fresh-cut fruit, stock displays, and maintain clean, safe standards in a fast-paced produce area. This role supports our community focus and upholds Vallarta’s core values of service and integrity.

You will greet customers, assist with custom cuts, record inventory, and follow food-safety rules. Training is provided; prior grocery experience is a plus. Flexible scheduling available.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of English language.
• Prior grocery or food retail experience is a plus, but on-the-job training provided.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, package, and label fresh-cut fruit according to Vallarta’s Production Tool guidelines.
• Accurately record inventory and production, including inter-departmental transfers.
• Stock, rotate, and maintain fruit displays to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
• Monitor proper food storage temperatures and follow Health Department regulations.
• Keep Fruteria tools, equipment, and workstations clean and sanitized.
• Follow production schedules set by the Fruteria Lead or Produce Manager.
• Greet and assist customers with fresh fruit selections and custom cut-fruit items.
• Promote sales using suggestive selling techniques while ensuring extraordinary service.
• Build and maintain visually appealing displays with proper signage and pricing.
• Communicate supply needs to the lead or manager.
• Support fellow team members and attend meetings/training as scheduled.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation policies; ensure safe and clean work areas.

About the Role

TheFruteriaClerk supports the day-to-day operations of theFruteria(cut fruit) department by preparing fresh-cut fruit, stocking displays,maintainingcleanliness, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. This role is essential to creating a fresh, welcoming environment for customers while modeling Vallarta’s Core Values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork.

What You’ll Do

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk forlong periods(6–8 hours/day).
• Frequently bend, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
• Use handsfrequentlyfor grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.frequentlyand up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to perishable products.
