Job summary

The Cancer & Hematology Centers is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy and finger stick procedures for obtaining blood for laboratory analysis. You will be a primary laboratory representative with patients and families, ensuring proper specimen handling and labeling.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, accurate patient identification, proper tube selection, and maintaining a safe, organized lab area.

Qualifications

• Two years related work experience is preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and finger sticks per policies and procedures.
• Identify patients accurately and label/handle specimens properly.
• Determine and collect appropriate tubes for tests requested.
• Monitor phlebotomy supplies and notify when restocking is needed.
• Enter new patients into the LIS and order tests; print and fax reports.
• Maintain a safe work environment and report hazards to the safety officer.
• Assist lab staff with calling, billing, and coordinating patient care with physicians and nurses.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
