Job summary

Davenport Community Schools is seeking a dedicated individual to teach and coach young athletes at West High School. This role involves motivating students both academically and athletically while leading by example and promoting school programs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire to improve sports programs and build rapport with culturally diverse students. Experience with competitive success at the state level is desired.

Qualifications

• Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills with culturally diverse students.
• Experience teaching a marching percussion section is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach and coach students in the fundamentals of sports.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Sport Duties

• Must demonstrate the ability to teach and coach young people in the fundamentals and techniques.
• Must demonstrate the appropriate competitive drive to develop and maintain a strong program.
• Must demonstrate desire to constantly improve the program and overall sports program at West High School.
• Must demonstrate ability to motivate student-athletes to be the best they can be on the court and in the classroom.
• Must demonstrate ability to communicate with all stakeholders including but not limited to administration, staff, students and booster club.
• Must provide adequate supervision before, during and after practices/games.

School Duties

• Must lead by example demonstrating high character and solid moral background.
• Must promote other programs at West High School and encourage to participate in other activities.
• Must work with Athletic Boosters in working concession stands throughout the year, and willing to attend one meeting per academic year.
• Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
• Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
• Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
