Job summary

Davenport Community Schools in Davenport, IA is seeking a dedicated marching band coach at West High School to lead and develop a competitive program. You will teach fundamentals, coordinate with athletic boosters, and ensure high standards of character while supporting MTSS principles and safe supervision.

This on-site role requires strong communication with administration, staff, students, and the community to grow a successful band program.

Qualifications

• Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
• Marching Band or Drum Corps Background.
• Experience as a member of marching band percussion section.
• Experience teaching a marching percussion section.

Responsibilities

• Teach and coach students in fundamentals and techniques.
• Develop and maintain a strong and competitive program.
• Support and promote Davenport's MTSS for behavior and academics.
• Communicate with administration, staff, students and booster club.
• Provide adequate supervision before, during and after practices/games.
• Lead with high character and build rapport with culturally diverse students.
• Support athletic boosters in associated activities and events.

Sport Duties

• Must demonstrate the ability to teach and coach young people in the fundamentals and techniques.
• Must demonstrate the appropriate competitive drive to develop and maintain a strong program.
• Must demonstrate desire to constantly improve the program and overall sports program at West High School.
• Must demonstrate ability to motivate student-athletes to be the best they can be on the court and in the classroom.
• Must demonstrate ability to communicate with all stakeholders including but not limited to administration, staff, students and booster club.
• Must provide adequate supervision before, during and after practices/games.

School Duties

• Must lead by example demonstrating high character and solid moral background.
• Must promote other programs at West High School and encourage to participate in other activities.
• Must work with Athletic Boosters in working concession stands throughout the year, and willing to attend one meeting per academic year.
• Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
• Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
• Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.

• Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
