Job summary

York County Government seeks an Assistant Conflict Counsel to serve in the Conflict Office. This attorney defends indigent clients when conflicts prevent Public Defender representation, covering all stages of criminal proceedings.

The role requires admission to the Pennsylvania Bar, familiarity with Pennsylvania law, the Rules of Criminal Procedure and Evidence, and strong analytical and communication skills. Reports to Chief Conflict Counsel and collaborates with court staff.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed attorney admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and in good standing.
• Experience with Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure and Evidence.
• Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
• Professional presentation at all times.

Responsibilities

• Represent indigent defendants unable to be represented by Public Defender due to conflicts.
• Defend clients through all stages of criminal proceedings, including trials and appeals.
• Handle both adult and juvenile cases, from Preliminary Hearings to appeal.
• Conduct legal research and draft motions and briefs.
• Maintain professional conduct and collaborate with office and courts.
