Job summary

Ochsner Health is recruiting a Substance Use Navigator (SUN) for its Emergency Department in Shreveport, LA. The role focuses on frontline engagement with patients who have substance use disorders, facilitating rapid linkage to treatment and community resources, and supporting care coordination within the ED setting.

The SUN leverages lived experience when appropriate, to build trust, reduce stigma, and guide patients toward recovery pathways.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level education preferred in social services or related field.
• Experience or willingness to use lived experience appropriately in a professional setting.

Responsibilities

• Engage ED patients with substance use concerns using trauma-informed, person-centered approaches.
• Establish rapport and trust with patients, including those in crisis or ambivalent about treatment.
• Perform SBIRT activities and educate patients on treatment options and harm reduction.
