Job summary

Cast Iron Coding, a Portland-based web development agency, seeks a Frontend Web Developer with 1+ year of experience. You’ll work on HTML, CSS, and UX, focusing on application logic, data fetching, and server-vs-browser rendering decisions.

You’ll contribute to a diverse stack that includes Astro, TanStack/React, TypeScript, GraphQL, and Tailwind. Collaboration with designers, PMs, and clients is expected, with emphasis on accessibility and quality.

Qualifications

• 1+ year working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience building an application with a JavaScript framework
• Strong written communication skills
• Curiosity about how an application is put together

Responsibilities

• Implement data fetching and state management in frontend applications and decide what renders on server vs browser
• Work with server-side capabilities of Astro and TanStack Start (routing, server functions, caching, deployment)
• Maintain and extend existing client projects, including sites built on older technologies
• Collaborate with designers to implement responsive interfaces from static designs
• Produce UI in semantic HTML, modern CSS, and JavaScript meeting WCAG guidelines
• Work with data from GraphQL APIs and communicate API design questions to backend team
• Conduct QA and accessibility testing and review teammates' code
• Communicate with clients in writing and in meetings to demonstrate progress and resolve questions
• Attend frontend team meetings and manage tasks in ClickUp
• Be accountable to teammates with kindness, respect and empathy
