Job summary

General Medicine in Boston seeks a frontend engineer to build a seamless consumer healthcare web app. You will own major surfaces of our Next.js app—from search to checkout—and obsess over every detail of the patient experience.

Ideal candidates bring React and TypeScript expertise, a sharp eye for UI polish, and experience delivering fast, accessible apps. You will collaborate with design, shape frontend architecture, and coordinate with Rails and Postgres on the backend.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience building production web applications with React.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern React patterns (server components, hooks, data fetching).
• Experience with Next.js or a similar framework (routing, SSR/SSG, API routes, caching).
• A strong eye for UI quality - you notice when padding is off by 4px and it bothers you.
• Experience with frontend performance optimization, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Comfort working with RESTful APIs and understanding backend data models.
• Familiarity with modern backend frameworks is a plus - we use Ruby on Rails and Postgres.

Responsibilities

• Own major surfaces of our Next.js app—from search to checkout.
• Obess over every detail of the patient experience (UI/UX).
• Collaborate with design to nail interactions and micro-details; architecture decisions on components, state, data fetching, performance, and testing.
• Work across the stack when needed; frontend talks to a Rails backend and Postgres.
• Write product requirements and QA to deliver a great product.
