Job summary

General Medicine Inc. is seeking a frontend engineer to own major surfaces of our Next.js app, from search and scheduling to provider profiles and checkout, delivering a seamless patient experience.

The role emphasizes React and TypeScript expertise, UI polish, accessibility, performance, and the ability to work with design, operations, and clinical stakeholders; you may work across the stack with Rails and Postgres as needed. Office-based in SF or Boston with 3–5 days/week on site.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience building production web applications with React.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern React patterns (server components, hooks, data fetching).
• Experience with Next.js or a similar framework (routing, SSR/SSG, API routes, caching).
• A strong eye for UI quality — you notice when padding is off by 4px and it bothers you.
• Experience with frontend performance optimization, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Comfort working with RESTful APIs and understanding backend data models.
• Familiarity with modern backend frameworks is a plus — we use Ruby on Rails and Postgres.

Responsibilities

• Own major surfaces of our Next.js application — from search and scheduling to provider profiles and checkout.
• Obsess over every detail of the patient experience.
• Collaborate closely with design to nail interactions and micro-details, and make pragmatic frontend architecture decisions.
• Work across the stack when needed; frontend talks to a Rails backend.
• Contribute to product requirements, write SQL to understand feature performance, and assist QA.
