About The Role
The role centers on building user-facing web applications where performance, accessibility, and visual polish are non-negotiable. The engineer will ship features used by millions of users daily, working primarily in React and TypeScript against well-defined design systems and a fast-moving product roadmap.
This is a hands‑on frontend position with real ownership: the engineer will work directly with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to turn ambiguous requirements into production‑grade interfaces, and will be accountable for both the code they ship and the user experience it delivers.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain complex, reusable UI components in React and TypeScript, contributing to and evolving an internal component library
- Own feature development end-to-end: wireframes to production, including state management, API integration, and error handling
- Optimize application performance - bundle size, code splitting, render times, Core Web Vitals - for a large-scale single-page application
- Implement responsive, accessible interfaces (WCAG 2.1 AA) using modern CSS tooling such as Tailwind, CSS Modules, or styled-components
- Collaborate with backend engineers on API contract design using REST and GraphQL, and build resilient data‑fetching layers with tools like React Query or Apollo
- Write unit and integration tests with Jest, React Testing Library, or Playwright, and maintain high coverage on critical user flows
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and frontend guild initiatives; mentor junior engineers on the team
What We Are Looking For
- 3-7 years of professional frontend engineering experience, with at least 2 years building production React applications
- Deep proficiency in TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+), and the React ecosystem (hooks, context, performance patterns)
- Strong CSS fundamentals and hands‑on experience with at least one modern styling approach (Tailwind, CSS-in-JS, CSS Modules)
- Experience integrating with REST and GraphQL APIs and managing client‑side state at scale (Redux, Zustand, React Query, or similar)
- Solid grasp of web performance, accessibility standards, and cross-browser compatibility
- Comfort working in a hybrid cadence from New York, NY, with 3 days per week on-site
- Bonus: experience with Next.js or server-side rendering, design systems tooling (Storybook, Figma handoff), Node.js backend exposure, or contributions to open-source frontend libraries
