Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant performs both clinical and administrative duties to support efficient clinic flow, safe operations, and excellent patient experience. Responsibilities include taking medical histories, recording vital signs, updating medical records, communicating with patients, and maintaining confidentiality. Responsibilities vary based on state regulations.

  • Greet and escort patients, gather history, take vital signs, prepare patients for exams, and document all information.
  • Provide high-quality patient experience through excellent service and communication, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during exams and procedures under supervision.
  • Perform medical procedures such as collecting specimens, administering injections, and venipuncture as permitted by state law.
  • Communicate instructions to patients and ensure understanding.
  • Assist with scheduling tests, treatments, follow-ups, and communicate results.
  • Maintain exam rooms, supplies, instruments, and sterilization processes.
  • Respond to calls, requests, triage messages, and maintain patient records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Level: Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program. Certification required; if not certified, must obtain within 6 months to 1 year depending on state law.

Experience: 1+ years in an office setting preferred.

Industry Experience: Healthcare

  • CPR certification required
  • Ability to follow universal precautions, maintain OSHA standards, and comply with HIPAA regulations.
