FRONT OF THE HOUSE MANAGER

About Us: The Market Café at Bonton Farms is a small non-profit restaurant dedicated to the mission of transforming lives by disrupting systems of inequity, laying a foundation where health, wholeness, and opportunity are the norm for all people. We strive to create a welcoming environment for our guests while fostering a team culture centered around service, collaboration, and community impact.

Overview of Role:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Front of House Manager to oversee the daily operations of our restaurant. This role is pivotal in creating a positive dining experience for our guests and ensuring that our front-of-house team is motivated, trained, and working efficiently. The Front of House Manager will report to the Director of Customer Experience and will work closely with the kitchen staff to maintain seamless service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Management:
    1. Recruit, train, and supervise front-of-house staff, ensuring high standards of customer service and teamwork.
    2. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to staff.
  2. Guest Relations:
    1. Create a welcoming atmosphere for guests, handling inquiries, feedback, and complaints with professionalism and care.
    2. Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and engagement.
    3. Enhance and refresh catering and Market Cafe' rental opportunities.
  3. Operations Oversight:
    1. Manage daily front-of-house operations, including seating arrangements, reservations, and service flow.
    2. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized dining environment.
    3. Create weekly schedules.
    4. Work with HR Leadership on hiring needs and other employee relations as applicable.
  4. Financial Management:
    1. Assist in budgeting and cost control for front-of-house operations.
    2. Monitor cash handling procedures and ensure accurate reporting of daily sales.
  5. Collaboration:
    1. Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure timely food delivery and communication between front and back of house.
    2. Participate in staff meetings and contribute to overall restaurant planning and development.
    3. Support The Preservatory in the creation and planning of baked goods and pastries.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years in management in a full-service restaurant, preferably in a non-profit or community-focused setting.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and POS Programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in the food service industry.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Guest-oriented and service-minded.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations and de-escalate concerns.
  • Passion for community service and a commitment to the mission of the restaurant.
  • Ability to work extended shifts with extensive standing/walking.
  • Ability to lift materials and/or product up to 30 lbs. or more.
