Job summary

Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, is seeking a Front of House Coordinator to join the Memorial Hall production team. The role oversees audience take-in, house management, coordination, and administrative duties supporting College, University events.

Responsibilities include directing ushers, resolving seating issues, assisting patrons with needs, enforcing safety codes, and coordinating with Box Office, security, custodial, and technical staff to ensure a swift, safe, and comfortable seating

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in event execution and house management at a performance venue.
  • Experience in the operation of theatrical lighting and audio systems.
  • Ability and willingness to regularly work a flexible and varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Description

Job Summary:

The Front of House Coordinator is a member of the Memorial Hall production team, reporting to the Production Manager and performs audience take-in/house management, coordinating, administrative, and technical duties supporting College, University, and external events.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

House Management Responsibilities (approx. 90%)

  • Place and instruct ushers; resolve ticket/seating problems and patron complaints in consultation with Box Office staff
  • Assist patrons with special physical needs and/or limitations; enforce fire codes inside and outside the building; and respond to emergencies
  • Coordinate efforts of producers, Box Office staff, ushers, security staff, custodial staff, and technical staff in assuring swift and safe seating of audience, timely start of performance, and safe, clean, and comfortable conditions for patrons and performers
Technical Responsibilities (approx. 10%)
  • Assist the Production Manager in maintaining the theatrical lighting control and audio systems in the Complex, as well as operating the piano and wheelchair lifts in Sanders Theatre
Working Conditions:

The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs and objectives and consistent with College Policy, which requires 5 days on-site in Cambridge, MA during term time (first day of classes through commencement), with the exception of student breaks. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University's Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details about the College policy will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting, standing, stooping, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience in event execution and house management at a performance venue
