Job summary
IBM Consulting is seeking a skilled Front‑end Engineer to work within IBM’s Client Innovation Centers. You will collaborate across design, engineering, QA, and DevOps to deliver end‑to‑end UI solutions, build reusable components, and ensure performance and accessibility.
The role emphasizes leadership on complex projects, architecture, and client‑facing delivery, with strong emphasis on React/Next.js and cloud familiarity.
Qualifications
- Experience with modern frameworks (React, Vue.js, Next.js).
- Understanding of responsive design and accessibility best practices.
- Experience with component libraries, design systems, and UI/UX collaboration.
- Strong debugging, testing, and performance optimisation skills.
- Experience with Git and Git‑based workflows.
- Understanding of API integration and backend collaboration.
- Knowledge of front‑end testing (unit, integration, E2E).
- Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps workflows.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving ability.
- Experience leading teams or acting as technical lead.
- Experience defining architecture, standards, or best practices.
- Understanding of cloud‑native environments (AWS, Azure).
- Exposure to Node.js or Next.js server‑side concepts.
- Consulting or client‑facing experience.
Responsibilities

- Mentor junior and mid‑level developers and support their technical and consulting development.
- Communicate technical decisions, trade‑offs, and solution approaches to stakeholders and clients.
- Influence planning, technical strategy, or account‑level delivery decisions.

In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Experience building and maintaining design systems or enterprise‑scale component libraries
- Exposure to performance monitoring and optimisation tooling (e.g. Lighthouse, Web Vitals)
- Experience working in regulated or high‑assurance environments (e.g. Public Sector, Financial Services)
- Familiarity with server‑side rendering and edge delivery patterns (e.g. Next.js, SSR, static optimisation)
- Experience collaborating in multi‑disciplinary, client‑facing delivery teams, including participation in workshops or discovery phases
