Job summary

IBM Consulting FutureNow seeks a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to drive modern DevOps practices across public and private sectors. You’ll lead projects, mentor engineers, and automate pipelines using current AWS services and IaC tooling.

The role emphasizes security, monitoring, and scalable delivery across hybrid environments. You’ll work in IBM Consulting FutureNow Centers delivering deep technical expertise to clients worldwide, with a focus on innovation and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using AWS services (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy) and CloudFormation.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python) for AWS deployment automation.
  • Hands-on containerization with Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes (EKS preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch) and security best practices.
  • Proven ability to implement secure, observable, scalable DevOps tooling and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead smaller projects and mentor junior engineers within DevOps initiatives.
  • Automate and streamline software delivery pipelines across the full DevOps lifecycle.
  • Work with IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) to manage infrastructure.
  • Configure monitoring/alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios) and log platforms (ELK, Splunk).
  • Enforce security best practices and manage CI/CD processes (CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy).

In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting FutureNow Centers, where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer with public sector and consulting experience to join IBM and help drive our DevOps initiatives. In this role, you will lead smaller projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to shaping IBM’s technical direction in modern DevOps practices. You will also be involved throughout the full DevOps lifecycle, with a focus on automating and streamlining software delivery pipelines using current tools and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring and alerting solutions using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Nagios.
  • Manage log collection and aggregation platforms such as the ELK Stack or Splunk.
  • Apply security best practices in line with DevOps principles.
  • Implement and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Proven experience in DevOps practices, including designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using AWS services such as CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CloudFormation.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Bash and Python; experience developing infrastructure and deployment automation for AWS environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with containerization technologies, including building, managing, and deploying Docker containers and orchestrating workloads using Kubernetes (EKS preferred).
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture and operations with deep exposure to AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch).
  • Excellent knowledge of Git and Git‑based workflows, supporting collaborative development and automated deployment processes.
  • Experienced in identifying, analyzing, and remediating security vulnerabilities across cloud infrastructure, containerized environments, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, ECR scanning, or SAST/DAST tools).

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The enhancedSecurity Check (eSC) or enhancedDeveloped Vetting (eDV).

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI).
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, ELK Stack, Datadog).
  • Passion for continuous learning and professional development.
