We're looking for a skilled Front-End Developer to build fast, accessible, and visually polished web experiences. This is a 6-month contract position, remote within the US EST time zone. You'll work closely with designers, back-end engineers, and product stakeholders to turn ideas into production-ready interfaces, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and clean code.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain responsive, high-performance web applications using React.js and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
• Build and integrate server-side functionality and APIs with Node.js (Express, Next.js API routes, or similar)
• Turn Figma/Sketch designs into pixel-accurate, reusable UI components
• Create and maintain component libraries and design systems
• Integrate with RESTful and GraphQL APIs, including third-party services and headless commerce platforms
• Optimize applications for speed, Core Web Vitals, SEO, and cross-browser compatibility
• Ensure accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) across all user-facing features
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to maintain code quality
• Take part in code reviews, sprint planning, and technical design discussions
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve front-end issues in production

Qualifications

• Required
  • 3+ years of professional front-end development experience
  • Strong proficiency in React.js (hooks, context, component lifecycle, state management with Redux, Zustand, or React Query)
  • Hands-on experience with Node.js and building or consuming APIs
  • Expert knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+); working knowledge of TypeScript
  • Experience with CSS methods and frameworks such as Sass, Tailwind CSS, CSS Modules, or styled-components
  • Familiarity with Next.js or other SSR/SSG frameworks
  • Experience with build tools and bundlers (Webpack, Vite, Babel)
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative workflows (pull requests, branching strategies)
  • Experience with testing tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright
  • Solid understanding of responsive design, browser rendering, and web performance optimization
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Preferred
  • BigCommerce experience, including Stencil theme development, Handlebars templating, the BigCommerce APIs (Storefront, Catalog, Checkout), or headless builds with Catalyst/Next.js
  • Experience with other e-commerce platforms (Shopify, Magento/Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud)
  • Knowledge of headless CMS tools (Contentful, Sanity, Strapi)
  • Experience with GraphQL (Apollo Client or similar)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud hosting (Vercel, Netlify, AWS)
  • Experience with analytics, A/B testing tools, and conversion optimization
  • Understanding of SEO best practices for e-commerce sites
  • Storybook or similar component documentation tools
