Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Front-End/BI Data Engineer to support the US Navy. This 100% onsite role is open to candidates in Norfolk, VA.

The engineer will turn transformed datasets into usable BI products, focusing on Power BI, reporting, visualization, and the data-consumption layer. The position requires 3–4 years in data engineering/BI, Active Secret clearance, IAT Level II, and strong Power BI experience.

Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance.
• IAT Level II certification.
• Strong hands-on Power BI experience building reports and dashboards.
• Experience working with SQL databases and ETL/data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and enterprise solutions.
• Translate requirements into visualizations and reporting products.
• Work with transformed enterprise datasets to develop reporting solutions.
• Partner with backend data engineers to ensure data is available and optimized for reporting.
• Understand underlying data pipelines, transformations, and repositories for reporting.
• Develop SQL queries and work with SQL databases to prepare data for reporting.
• Identify data quality issues impacting reporting accuracy.
• Work with data from legacy and enterprise systems feeding reporting.
• Support data ingestion and transformation with Azure Data Factory (ADF).

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Front-End/BI Data Engineer to support the USN. This role is 100% onsite and is open to candidates in Norfolk, VA. The Front-End/BI Data Engineer will join a small team that supports and manages government tools connected to the Navy's enterprise network. As the team's mission continues to expand into enterprise data, this engineer will help turn transformed and aggregated datasets into usable business intelligence, dashboards, reports, and enterprise-facing data products. This position is primarily focused on the Power BI, reporting, visualization, and data-consumption layer, while still requiring enough hands-on data engineering knowledge to understand where data comes from, how it is transformed, and how reporting requirements affect the underlying data pipeline.

Responsibilities of the Front-End/BI Data Engineer:

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and enterprise reporting solutions
• Translate business and technical requirements into meaningful data visualizations and reporting products
• Work with transformed and aggregated enterprise datasets to develop reporting solutions
• Partner with backend data engineers to ensure the appropriate data is available, structured, and optimized for reporting
• Understand the underlying data pipelines, sources, transformations, staging processes, and repositories that support reporting
• Develop SQL queries and work directly with SQL databases to investigate, validate, and prepare data for reporting
• Help identify data quality issues, inconsistencies, and gaps that impact reporting accuracy
• Work with data from legacy, disparate, and enterprise systems and understand how those systems feed downstream reporting
• Support data ingestion and transformation activities when necessary, including working with Azure Data Factory (ADF)
• Develop dashboards and reports that make complex enterprise data accessible and actionable to technical and business stakeholders
• Optimize Power BI reports, data models, queries, and visualizations for enterprise use
• Collaborate with backend data engineering resources on data requirements, pipeline dependencies, and reporting architecture
• Document reporting solutions, data sources, data relationships, and technical dependencies

Qualifications of the Front-End/BI Data Engineer:

• 3–4 years of hands‑on Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or BI/Data Reporting experience
• Active Secret clearance
• IAT Level II certification
• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, including building reports & dashboards
• Experience working directly with SQL and SQL databases
• Understanding of ETL/data transformation, staging, aggregation, and data pipelines
• Experience working with enterprise datasets and preparing data for reporting
• Experience integrating or working with data from multiple, disparate, or legacy systems
• Sufficient Azure Data Factory experience to understand and work with the pipelines feeding downstream reporting
• Ability to work across the data lifecycle and understand how source data -> pipelines -> transformation -> repositories -> reporting fit together
• Preferred: Azure Data Factory (ADF), Python, PowerShell, XML, SSIS, Azure/cloud data environments, data modeling, enterprise BI/data warehousing, Splunk

Compensation for the Front-End/BI Data Engineer:

• Salary: $95,000–100,000 depending on experience
