Job summary

St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge is seeking a warm, patient Guest Advocate to be the first friendly face at our Welcome Center for neighbors, staff, volunteers, visitors, and community partners.

In this part-time, non-exempt role, you will focus on welcoming every person with dignity, helping them understand available services, and connecting them to the right program or staff member. Reporting to the Welcome Center Program Manager, you will greet guests, assist with sign-in, answer phones,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Clear, courteous communication skills.
• Ability to explain services to people with different needs and levels of understanding.
• Proficiency with computer applications and data entry.
• Good judgment and problem-solving skills, including recognizing and reporting safety concerns.
• Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced front-desk environment.
• Maintain neighbor confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and assist neighbors, visitors, volunteers, and partners.
• Open/close the Welcome Center day shelter per procedures.
• Manage guest sign-in and logs.
• Route neighbors to services, staff, or partner.
• Provide warm handoffs and notify staff for needs beyond your role.
• Maintain knowledge of services, intake hours, eligibility requirements, and locations.
• Monitor reception area and coordinate with security on safety concerns.
• Report concerns and incidents to supervisor and document appropriately.
• Answer phones, direct inquiries, distribute supplies and forms, schedule rooms.
• Provide clerical support: filing, copying, data entry, mailings.
• Keep reception and shared areas organized and support donations and neighbor activities.
