Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a friendly Checker in our Grocery department. In this hourly role, you’ll operate the register, greet customers, and help with store-wide service to ensure every visit ends on a positive note.

You will learn Hy-Vee policies and engage with customers to provide accurate transactions and helpful assistance, supporting promotions and safety guidelines in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
• Perform arithmetic calculations with fractions, decimals and percentages.
• Communicate clearly and follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide friendly service.
• Operate the cash register and process payments.
• Count change and handle refunds or credits.
• Ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.
• Bag merchandise and assist customers with carry-out.
• Keep items stocked and shelves clean.
• Maintain register area and report cash discrepancies.
• Verify register balances at shift start and end.
• Communicate with store staff via intercom/phone.
• Maintain store safety and security awareness.
• Assist with store displays and promotions.
• Support other areas of the store as needed.
• Adhere to Hy-Vee policies and dress standards.
• Report to work as scheduled.
