Job summary

Parchment School District seeks a Basketball Coach to lead the freshman team and foster student-athlete development within the school and community. Responsibilities include coaching fundamentals, strategy, conditioning, and mentoring students to develop discipline, pride, and teamwork.

The role emphasizes planning practices, analyzing performance data, and adhering to school rules and MHSAA guidelines. Prior high school coaching success and a valid Michigan teaching certificate are desirable

• A commitment to provide student/athlete with a positive sport experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and conduct a regular program of practice and competition in accordance with school, School Board and MHSAA rules.
• Analyze game statistics and tactical data of opponents and prepare game plans accordingly.
• Assist varsity coach in distributing/collecting information such as Parent Consent Forms, Physicals, Birth Certificates, Grade Reports, Accident Forms.
• Attend meetings pertaining to basketball as scheduled by the MHSAA and the school (rules, clinics, scheduling).
• Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment pertaining to the sport.
• Oversee safety conditions of the facility or area assigned to the basketball program.
• Supervise the safety and welfare of students participating in the basketball program before, during and after contests.
• Establish and maintain good rapport with athletes, staff, parents and community groups.
• Submit requests for transportation forms as needed.
• Assist in planning and organization of promotion and participant recruitment and recognition programs for the sport.
• Perform assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

JOB GOAL:

To successfully lead the Freshman team as well as demonstrate commitment to student athletes, school, and community. The main responsibility is to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence while analyzing their performance, instructing in relevant skills, and providing encouragement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Successful experience as a player at the high school/college level.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To plan, schedule and conduct a regular program of practice and competition in accordance with rules of the school, the School Board and the MHSAA
• Analyze game statistics and tactical data of opponents and prepare game plans accordingly
• To assist the varsity coach in the distribution /collection of appropriate information i.e. Parent Consent Forms, Physical Examination Forms, Birth Certificates, Grade Report Forms at the end of each grading period, Accident Forms and any other information concerning the sport
• To attend the appropriate meetings pertaining to basketball as scheduled by the MHSAA and the school, i.e. rules, clinics, scheduling meetings, etc.
• To assume responsibility for maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment pertaining to the sport
• Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area assigned to the basketball program
• To assume responsibility for supervision, safety and welfare of students participating in the basketball program before, during and after scheduled practices and competitive contests
• To establish and maintain good rapport with athletes, staff, parents, community groups
• To assume responsibility for submitting requests for transportation forms
• To assist the Athletic Dept. in planning and organization of promotion and participant recruitment and recognition programs pertaining to the sport
• To perform assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
• To perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
