Job summary

ICA Language Services seeks a French language instructor for the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA. This full-time, hourly position requires at least three years of experience teaching French to adult students in a proficiency-oriented environment.

The role includes planning and delivering classes, utilizing training materials, adapting to student needs, and assessing progress. It is a 40-hour workweek with a $51.00 hourly rate, through 2/26/2027, starting immediately.

Qualifications

• Educated native or near-native speaker of French.
• BA/BS, MA/MS, or PhD, or foreign equivalent.
• 3+ years teaching French to adults in group settings.
• 3+ years using proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
• 1+ year administering proficiency-based assessments (FSI, DLPT, ACTFL OPI).
• ILR English proficiency level 2/2.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct group and one-on-one French classes for adults.
• Use provided training materials and collaborate with other instructors.
• Adapt teaching to learners' individual styles and needs.
• Conduct progress evaluations and weekly quizzes/assessments.
• Integrate culture relevant to US Foreign Service Officers into teaching.
• Attend all section meetings and use instructional technology.
• Perform other teaching and administrative duties under guidance of Training Manager(s) and Supervisors.

Job Requirements:

• Plan and conduct group and one-on-one foreign language classes using a variety of teaching techniques, aimed at the development of speaking, reading, and listening skills.
• Use provided training materials and work collaboratively with other instructors on all program-related matters.
• Adapt teaching approaches to the students' individual learning styles and needs.
• Conduct informal or formal progress evaluations and/or administer weekly quizzes and assessments to evaluate student progress.
• Integrate culture and other topics relevant to US Foreign Service Officers into teaching.
• Attend all section and other meetings as appropriate.
• Incorporate the use of instructional technology into the program.
• Perform other teaching and administrative duties, as needed, under the guidance of the Training Manager(s) and Supervisor(s).

Required Qualifications:

• Educated native or near-native speaker of the French language.
• BA/BS, MA/MS, or PhD, or foreign equivalent degree(s) in any field.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching adult students the French language in a group setting.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching foreign language using proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments (i.e., FSI test, DLPT, ACTFL OPI, etc.).
• A minimum English proficiency level of a 2/2 on the ILR proficiency scale.
• Must possess the cultural background and knowledge specific to the country where the French language is spoken.
