Job summary

HDR is seeking a Freight Railroad Track Intern to assist in the design and review of track projects for freight railroad clients. You will gain real-world experience under senior engineers and contribute to material lists, quantity calculations, and submittal reviews.

The role requires current enrollment in an engineering program, strong problem-solving skills, and familiarity with MicroStation or AutoCAD, along with basic MS Office.

Responsibilities

In the role of a Freight Railroad Track Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and proceduresrelated to the design of track, and supporting facilities for our various freight railroad clients
  • Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a senior-level Engineer to assistin checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists and calculating quantities, reviewing construction submittals, and use of specialized software
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programs
  • Position may require travel and/or field work within the U.S.
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • This position is contingent upon the successful completion of background check and drug screening. Following hire, the role is subject to random and reasonable-cause drug and alcohol testing
  • Have a valid license to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law
  • This position is subject to a preemployment drug test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer 2+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry, such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
