Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) is seeking a Conductor in Plainfield, CT to move freight safely and efficiently.

You will receive classroom and hands-on training to build a long-term railroad career, working outdoors in all weather on a 40+ hour week in a 24/7 operation. Responsibilities include complying with railroad safety rules, coordinating with a trainer or supervisor, communicating with the team, operating track switches, inspecting equipment, and using basic computer tools for reporting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and at least eighteen years of age.
• Pre-employment physical, hearing and vision review.
• Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
• Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle history.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all federal, state, and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations.
• Coordinate movement with trainer, mentor or supervisor using signals or radio instructions.
• Operate track switches to determine the route of the train or rail equipment.
• Inspect the train and equipment for safety compliance.
• Read and follow the rule books and other written materials.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions and handle up to 12-hour shifts.
• Readily use basic computer skills for electronic reporting and train documentation.
